The Port Chicago Alliance has partnered with the global law firm Sidley Austin LLP to secure restitution for families of the World War II Sailors who were court-martialed following the 1944 disaster at the Port Chicago Naval Magazine in California. If you are a descendant, YOU MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR COMPENSATION for lost pay, benefits, and rights. Learn more about these efforts and how you can get involved.
Review the list of Port Chicago Sailors to verify that your family member is included and confirm that they were among those exonerated.
Obtain your family member’s DD214 military service records from archives.gov. You will need to provide proof of relation, such as a death certificate and/or birth certificate, to request the records.
If military records indicate a discharge other than honorable, submit Form DD-149 to request a correction reflecting the discharge upgrade to honorable status, as ordered by the Department of the Navy on July 17, 2024.
Contact us to connect you with our legal advisors at Sidley Austin LLP, who will help you determine the availability of relief from the Department of Defense and/or the Department of Veterans Affairs. Attorneys can also provide support in pursuing your family's discharge upgrade to honorable status.
