About the Port Chicago Trail

The history of Port Chicago extends far beyond a single location, connecting military installations, shipyards, transportation routes, waterfront communities, historic ships, museums, parks, and cities throughout the Bay Area.

The Port Chicago Trail was created by the Port Chicago Alliance to bring these places together as a regional heritage experience. The Trail connects visitors with sites associated with the Port Chicago disaster, the Sailors who served there, the World War II home front, civil rights, and the legacy of the Port Chicago 50.

Participating locations may be identified through permanent Trail medallions, exhibits and signage, digital storytelling, maps, itineraries, and educational resources. Together, they encourage visitors to experience the museums, historic sites, parks, cultural attractions, and communities that preserve this shared heritage.

The Trail is part of Visit Port Chicago, the Port Chicago Alliance’s heritage tourism initiative connecting history with travel throughout the region. Visit Port Chicago is supported by a growing network of tourism, heritage, and community partners, and we are proud to recognize Visit Concord as the initiative’s Founding Tourism Partner.
